A system for a domestic house, using 5kW, will cost between £5,000 and £10,000 and will provide all the heating and hot water needs for an average household. However, you need to have adequate insulation and preferably under floor heating rather than old radiators (ASHP do not work well with old radiator heating systems).
Air Source Heat Pumps, unlike GSHP’s, are easy to install as they take up very little space and sit outside the property. However, they can be quite noisy, some generating 50 decibels of noise, and for this reason they do require planning permission. You can get noise reduction cabinets, and this brings the noise level down to around 25 decibels.
