The tragic events seen in Japan has given rise to a reinvigorated debate on the safety of Nuclear fuel. We do not want to go into this in too much detail, although our view is that at this point in time it is vital we have Nuclear power as part of the energy mix. That is a very big claim, and indeed, reading the article you actually realise that the statement was made with regard to future falling costs. However, this is exactly how the renewable sector is developing. Costs are falling, and will continue to do so, making the sector more cost effective. At some point in time the sector will be required to “man-up” and stop living off Government subsidies, but at the moment it needs to be nurtured and developed.
Merkels signals Germany could ditch Nuclear for Renewables
Something we all work towards but feel we will never fully achieve – however, if anyone can achieve this it is Germany. Their aims to stop all nuclear facilities by 2021 seem very ambitious, but if they can be achieved it would be something remarkable. Merkel highlights the fact that Nuclear is a bridging technology, that is necessary to get us to where we would like to be.
